Working Smoke Alarms Save Lives

Fire Prevention is a longstanding tradition in North America. In 1920, President Woodrow Wilson issued the first National Fire Prevention Day proclamation. Then, in 1922, National Fire Prevention Day was officially extended to become Fire Prevention Week. Today, this event continues to be observed on the Sunday through Saturday period covering October 9th to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire. This year Fire Prevention Week will take place on October 5-11, and encourages more frequent smoke alarm testing.
